could you try to add something along the lines
OSG::preloadSharedObject("OSGFileIO");
OSG::preloadSharedObject("OSGImageFileIO");
OSG::preloadSharedObject("OSGContribPLY");
OSG::osgInit(0,NULL);
in your start up code.
