Hi folks,
Allen mentioned something at lunch yesterday that made me think: "If I
weren't subscribed to the commit-list, I'd have no idea what was going
on" (for those who don't know: we have a separate mailing list that
automatically gets a mail whenever somebody commits something to CVS).
And I have to agree with him: there's a bunch of stuff going on behind
the scenes that is easy to miss if you don't have an ear on the CVS
commits.
Given that the commits list can get a little busy, and commit mails tend
to get big (especially when a lot of files are changed), being
subscribed to commits is not for everybody. Therefore I've dusted off my
awk memories and wrote a little shell script that digests the commits
and sends a condensed version to the users list.
My plan is to have it do that once a week, which I think is often enough
to keep you updated but not often enough to annoy people. The script is
running, but my mails to the list are just eaten. I hope this goes away
when SF fixes their other mail problems. An example version of the
output is at the bottom of this message.
