Hm, that is very confusing. I can see the reason for coarse detail in
failing level-of-detail calculations due to a screwed up viewing and
projection matrix, but that it works after you converted it using the
GLUT program is just weird. 

Can you write out the model from your GLUT and WX programs and send me
the two? Maybe the original VRML, too? Please use .osb, not .bin as the
latter is very version-dependent.
