Anyway, I know there are fans and thermal sensors for a reason, I just thought
that having CPUs run 10C hotter would not cause major problems.

As somebody who has worked in Sun's support services in the
past, and had to deal with resolving customer issues which
were root-caused to over-heating of cpus .... just don't do it.
The chip and system design teams work really hard to design
good thermal envelopes and automatic systems to protect the
hardware.

I think I'll go back to using Ultra 10. It's more sluggish than E450, but in
the summer E450 will be too noisy.
PS. I don't see any point in buying new hardware when old SPARC machine are
sufficient for what I do. Sun E450 is quite a nice machine, apart from the
noisy fans.

It seems to me that you've bought the wrong machine for what
you need. Might I suggest you investigate a SunBlade-xx00
machine instead?
