Hmm ... I'd say that was probably not a wise idea given how long 0.9.7 has been in beta already. Building of zlib/compression support is potentially a "platform"-volatile issue that has never been an issue before (if zlib wasn't built-in, who cared?). I think it'd make more sense to cut down on features going into the HEAD after 0.9.7 is out so that 0.9.8 could be released sooner rather than later (0.9.7 has been a long time coming, I don't think 0.9.8 should be such a big gap).
