TLS extension support along with sni has now been back ported to OpenSSL 0.9.8
however it is not compiled in by default and you need to specifically enable
it with the configuration options "enable-tlsext".

It is not yet in an official 0.9.8-stable release but it will appear in the
next and subsequent releases which will happen "real soon now" which is
defined as "well before 0.9.9" ;-)

I'd suggest you try support in a recent 0.9.8 stable snapshot to see if there
are any issues which can be resolved before release.
