Steve: 1. HP C trial version Appears that there are patchs which must

I'm not a sysadmin, but, am assuming the role with this particular
PA-RISC2.0 platform. I had assumed that the depot included
everything and that the swinstall -p command would warn me if any
dependencies weren't met.

Well, the HP package management tools (the sw* commands) are generally pretty reliable, but personally I mostly use "swremove" on HP products. I haven't tried the trial HP C compiler.

2. gcc Do I understand correctly that to
build the FIPS Object Module (FOM) with gcc on HP-UX PA-RISC2.0, gcc
must be a 64-bit binary. That is, the gcc 32-bit binary does NOT
generate a valid FOM (32-bit or 64-bit) because the gcc 32-bit binary
behaves as described in Appendix E.1, FOM User Guide, but, the gcc
64-bit binary DOES generate a valid FOM (32-bit or 64-bit).

Not sure, the gcc 3.x problem noted in that appendix was analyzed by Andy Polyakov several years ago. I do not know if that issue persists for gcc 4.x, and I no longer have access to any 32 bit HP hardware. You can run the test program in that appendix to check your specific environment, though.

All I can say with complete confidence is that gcc 4.2.2 for PA-2.0 builds the FIPS Object Module on my HP-UX 11.11 systems.
