<enter theme from Jaws> No shark flash-copy usage here....
I think your going to need a bigger boat! Cheers! Robert -----Original Message----- To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Sent: 2/7/2003 3:23 PM Resending, just wondering if there any Shark FlashCopy users out there. So far, it doesn't look good. Gene >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/06/03 05:03PM >>> Excellent thread on VLDB and backups. I know EMC BCVs/Timefinder works for quick disk backups from experience. However, EMC is not an option, we are a IBM shop w/ Shark storage, Raid-5. The IBM reps say flashcopy works the same if not better than EMC BCVs. Question, is this pure marketing slop or does flashcopy work as advertised? I have seen many mentions and experience w/ EMC but have never seen flashcopy mentioned here. Thanks for any insight to flashcopy you can provide. Lisa - I am using timed statistics, AIX 4.3.3 ML 8, Oracle 8.1.7.0 and no problems here. Welcome back to the Unix world :) >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/05/03 04:35PM >>> Is this all live OLTP type data, or might some of the data be made read-only? How much will the data be growing and changing (if not a great deal then look into incrementals). I can't begin to guess at the time required.... those numbers are all factors of: 1. # of backup devices you will be backing up to (I'd suggest several, minimum of probably 6). 2. Speed of backup devices. 3. Speed of infrastructure from DB to the backup devices. Given a best case, lots of backup devices to backup to in parallel, fast fast infrastructure and really fast (and expensive) equipment, you could backup 1TB in an hour or two... Realisticly, much much longer, perhaps upwards of 10-12+ hours at a moderate price range. You could stagger these backups over the week, backup some tablespaces and all archived redo logs on day one, other tablespaces and archived redo logs on day two and so on. This staggered approach will reduce the overhead associated with a large, long lasting backup. Recovery of a TB will take a while of course, be prepared for that when negotiating your SLA's. A product like BMC's timefinder makes a good primary backup/recovery solution. -----Original Message----- To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Sent: 2/5/2003 2:16 PM I am considering doing an rman to disk backup and recovery solution for a 500G-- grow to 1terabyte database. Monster HP servers ... up t0 16 cpu, upto 10,000 concurrent users This rman would be the secondary recovery solution.... (Timefinder is the first). Anybody know time frames I might be able to restore/backup 500Gig to 1terabyte of database from disk? I will perform it before it goes live but I would like get a ball park idea of restore times before hand so we can determine if it can fit in the SLA requirements. Any parameters to focus on to improve performance other than allocating channels? Thanks for any help Brian Spears -----Original Message----- Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 9:53 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Check out the doc's at tahiti.oracle.com and look up the parameter noprompt. Robert -----Original Message----- To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Sent: 2/5/2003 5:48 AM Hello List, I think my question is very simple... How to execute RMAN command DELETE OBSOLETE from script without confirmation question to remove obsolete backups automatically? Many thanks for your help. -- Best regards, Alex mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
