Meaning that KDE refuses to install, (On this machine I expected that.) And the ZeroConf daemon we need almost always hides from the search engine for the Slackware third party site, ( www.linuxpackages.net ). Also I do not use the 2.6 kernel at present so my activities steer clear of wondering how the USB device would be managed. In short Paul your responses, even on an AMD64 based machine and our correspondents, on a Pentium family machine are nearly similar.
