I'm having trouble with my 1-wire network and I'm looking for help in
diagnosing.
It's been working fine for many years, but now I'm having some trouble.
Here is my configuration:
I upgraded to the latest code:
owserver version:
2.9p0
libow version:
2.9p0
Devices describes as series connections
1-wire serial adapter
6-channel Hub
aux -> DS18S20
main -> DS18S20
aux -> DS18S20
main -> DS18S20
aux -> DS18S20
main -> DS18S20
DS2408 (hobby boards 8-channel relay)
DS2408 (hobby boards 8-channel relay)
Not very taxing.
I'm using the OWNet.pm perl interface module.
I have a 12-15 parallel tcp connections to owserver accessing the network.
On many reads, but not all, I get an undef return, indicating an error.
So, I turned on debugging:
/usr/local/bin/owserver -F -d /dev/ttyS5 -p 4304 --nozero --error_level 5
--error_print 1
When I detect an error, I go look in my syslog. I get many of these errors:
Mar 27 20:24:05 linux OWFS[7240]: CONNECT: ow_reset.c:(36) 1-wire bus short
circuit.
I get these errors when attempting to access the DS2408 on the backend of the
HUB passthrough.
I get these errors when attempting to access some of the DS18S20 devices on the
aux/main ports.
I've checked all the wire connections and all appear good.
I haven't gone the route of cutting and redoing all of the RJ45 connections yet.
Questions:
Is a 1-wire bus short circuit error is as simple as the description?
Can a short circuit on a hub port corrupt the main line or does the hub isolate
all ports?
Might this be a problem with my serial adapter?
I have ordered a new USB adapter from hobby boards.
I have also ordered the "sniffer" device. Might be fun to have around :-)
Any advice appreciated.
Regards,
Jim
