Hi,

I do not think the CA server must be run last but you must run the
configuration wizard on all servers in the farm.

OK. Central Admin is telling me that (miraculously) everything succeeded with 0
errors/warnings. :)

Last question: is it still essential to run the config wizard on the CA host
server last? In effect, what would happen if you failed to do that?

Hi Paul.

On our scripted SP2010 build we slipstream just the SPS SP1 and the SPS August
2011 CU.

Also;

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation
CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU contains Project
Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product
family.

For December there is only a single download for both SPF and SPS.

Can I ask list members whether they've been historically installing just the
"uber" packages, or both the SPF and SPS installers?

It seems that the product group changed their
guidance<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx> a few
months back to say "the best practice is to install both".

Anyone? ...Bueller?

Hi Shahram,

That was my assumption but I'd really appreciate official confirmation. Can
someone from MS please confirm?

* The HotFix prerequisites state "To install this hotfix, you must have
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 OR Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Service
Pack 1...".

* The HotFix is also over 1GB in size!

Both these facts lead me to assume otherwise but it is not explicitly stated
ANYWHERE.

All I can tell you is that the OWSTIMER keeps crapping out during installation
due to System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException.

Any further advice is much appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

You need to install SP1 but not June Update before installing December CU.

The word "cumulative" in cumulative update means that a CU contains all earlier
CUs. So December CU contains October, August, ... CUs

Shahram.

Hi all,
I want to upgrade our RTM 2010 server farm to current CU.
Do I need to install SP1 and the June update refresh first?? Or can I just
install the December CU?
Kind regards,

Paul Noone
