Crusty macaroni and cheese

1    16 oz. pkg. elbow macaroni
1    lb. cheddar cheese, coarsely
     shredded (4 cups)
1    large white onion, coarsely chopped
     salt and pepper to taste

     Cook macaroni in large pot of lightly salted
 boiling water just until amost tender.  Drain. 
 divide macaroni between two 13x9x2 inch
 baking dishes.  Sprinkle onion and cheese
 over macaroni.  Season with salt and pepper. 
 Bake in 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes
 or until the cheese is completely melted and
 the top is slightly crusty.  Let stand 15
 minutes before slicing.
