I purchased a transmitter from radio shack about a month ago.  It wouldn't 
carry from my computer room to the living room.  I took it back and the 
salesman told me that it was used mostly in automobiles.

want it as it has
only two possible frequencies, 88.9 and 89.1, neither of which would be

Do you have any specifics on that transmitter?
Like cost, transmission range, power requirements etc.

I would suggest that if you haven't bought the C Crane transmitter yet.
consider the fm transmitter that radio shack sells first. it has in my 
mind
better coverage around the house. there is no whip antenna to get broken,
and you don't have to remove any plates and adjust any screws to make it
more powerful. my dad bought one and I tried it out when he was here. the
unit can plug into your soundcard and take up little space.
