The Iphone has a two rings a tip and a sleeve.
You can find a special plug in amazon at apple excesories.
This cable has a mic input and an audio output.
YoYou can use a standard plug powered mic in this input and It wil work.

good question and I'd say that you probably can't given the Apple 3.5MM
jack that the Apple Earbuds use is not standard.
