hi simon,since your previos posts are about Gem i recon you are talking about the gem window. please refer to the help patch for [gemwin], then see the subpatch [pd lighting and fog] since color perception is needs lighting i guess it somehow makes sense to look for it there.
you will find there that by simply sending a [color 0 1 1( message to gemwin you can set the background color of it.
