A friend of mine, serious about ornithology, takes all his photos with a rather small digital camera set at infinity and shooting through the eyepiece of a high quality spotting scope (on a tripod). The results are way better than what I can do with my Takumar 300mm + high res. scanner. But I was shooting at 1/250 without a tripod...
