What's the root of the word in Russian?

"Råd" means council in Norwegian.

OTOH, it gives a nice spin to the animal's latin name "Rattus norwegicus". :-)

Rådhus means City Hall. So you are quite right, it is rathouse. The house where the rats work ;-)

Just for the record, it is Towns Hall.

In Russian we have a word "Ratusha" which means the same... Wonder if this is yet another word we borrowed from the Vikings :-)...
