Some years ago when I still sailed dinghies (Enterprise) the fleet of about 12 was struck by lightning during a race at Ebeneezer Dam near Tzaneen. The charge passed down the mast & shrouds of the boats & then jumped the short gap to the water. All the boats showed some damage at water level ranging from burn marks to de-lamination. One crew lady had burns on her arm. Thank goodness for Faraday!

Ouch - that would get your pacemaker recharged in a hurry!

You could dine out on a story like that for years. Bore your grandkids
witless - "Did I ever tell you kids the time when a bolt of
lightning...."

Cheers

Comments from the poster, Brian Bledsoe"Delta flight landing in Atlanta
this afternoon...The lightning passed through the metal exterior and
exited
from the right landing gear (clearly visible). No one injured...new pants
likely required for most of the passengers "
