I tried a CPC 2x & a Vivitar MC 2x - both disappointing with digital yet they seemed OK in film days. The Pentax F 1.7x AF adapter, on the other hand, is quite good if used with a decent lens. Having said that, some tests I did showed little difference between cropped & TC images.

The eagle shot is nice, but it's crying out for levels adjustment and rendering finesse. The best Pentax converter is the DA 1.4X, but it vignettes a bIt on full frame. All the A series converters yield sharp images, but they're manual focus.

Also, is there an easy way to tell when, or which, teleconverter is sharper than just cropping a photo? Is there a list of good or bad ones? Or since there are only one or two that will work with autofocus, the question is answered?
