Odd - I took my mother's dog to the vet yesterday with kidney failure! The dog
is now having IV feeding as she was very dehydrated and hadn't eaten for some
days, so my mother is hoping the dog will be around for another few months at
least - it's 19 years old too!

I had to take Baxter to the vet tonight. She was 21 years old and was barely
eating. I managed to coax a bit of food into her the last week by puréeing
chicken breast & chicken broth in a blender.

But today she wouldn't even eat that.

Then when she jumped out of my lap this evening she couldn't walk, couldn't
stand up.

The vet said she had severe kidney failure and could probably live another week
with three days of IV fluids and if I'd learn how to give her subcutaneous
fluids at home. But even with that massive intervention, she wasn't going to
last much longer.

I was afraid she was going to suffer too much so I had her euthanized. It was
time. I wasn't ready & I didn't want to, but it was the best thing for Baxter.
