I won’t be able to post photos for a bit because I still don’t have internet at
home, other than a cell phone hotspot, from when a tree fell on my neighbor’s
house last Tuesday. Let’s just say that I am not currently thrilled with TPC.

I did get a chance to play with the K-3 III and my 70-200 tonight, and test
their weather proofing, in the rain, as a work crew cut a tree down that had
fallen on the power lines, a few feet from my property line, on the other side
of the house than the tree fell a week ago. We had a power since Sunday at 6PM,
but I didn’t let that make me complacent, I powered down my desktop when I left
for work this morning, because it’s rainy in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and was
supposed to get a little bit wet. So power from Sunday at 6PM until Tuesday at
2PM, that’s like over 40 hours, a guy could get spoiled.

I learned a couple of things about the 3 III tonight. First of all, there’s a
little button in the upper left of the back, which is easy to miss in the dark,
it’s right next to the metering mode button. If you bump it, you won’t be able
to adjust aperture, shutter speed or ISO. If you do so in the rain, in the
dark, when you aren’t familiar with the camera, and the controls inexplicably
stop working you. might mistakenly think that the weather sealing didn’t work
as well as it should, but might be puzzled why they e-dials still worked on the
menus.

I have also learned that as handy as the touch screen controls might be, in the
rain it can get very confused. The photo review and preview stop working and a
bunch of other strange things happen as well.

I also learned that if you put on a hard hat and a high visibility vest people
are a lot more likely to assume that you’re supposed to be where they chewed
you out for being a couple of hours previously.
