August, September and October will be critical months to end the Iraq war;
bring all U.S. troops home; and end all military warfare against Iraq
(including air, ground and naval warfare). General Petraeus is to report
to Congress by September 15 on progress (or lack thereof) in Iraq.
Shortly thereafter the House and the Senate will be taking up a new Iraq -
Afghanistan war spending bill for Fiscal Year 2008 (which runs from Oct.
1, 2007 to Sept. 30, 2008).

The President is seeking $145 billion to wage the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan in FY 2008. The key votes on this war spending will happen in
late September.

Voices for Creative Nonviolence urges you to plan to participate in one or
more of the following efforts to end the war:

AUGUST 6 TO OCTOBER: THE OCCUPATION PROJECT
(http://vcnv.org/project/the-occupation-project), coordinated by Voices
for Creative Nonviolence, (http://www.vcnv.org), launches a reinvigorated
campaign of nonviolent civil resistance / civil disobedience to end Iraq
war funding. Campaigns are currently being organized in over 15 states.
This phase will continue through the vote on the FY 2008 Iraq -
Afghanistan war funding bill sometime in late September or early October.
In the first phase over 320 arrests occurred in the offices of 39
Representatives and Senators.

AUGUST 6 TO 9 -- FROM HIROSHIMA TO THE MIDDLE EAST: No Nukes. No Wars.
No Profiteers. (http://august6.org) Sixty-two years after the U.S. killed
200,000 civilians by dropping atomic bombs on two densely populated
cities, we call on groups to expose the continuing, grave and immediate
threats posed to the world by U.S. nuclear hypocrisy, and to directly
confront the U.S. corporations that are perpetuating and profiting from a
worldwide nuclear crisis and the wars in the Middle East.

SEPTEMBER 14 TO 21 -- DECLARATION OF PEACE. DAYS OF DECISION.
(http://declarationofpeace.org) A week of nationwide coordinated, dramatic
nonviolent actions in every Congressional District across the United
States to Defund the U.S. war on Iraq and to Establish a Comprehensive
Peace Plan for Iraq.

SEPTEMBER 15 -- GENERAL PETRAEUS REPORT on progress (or lack thereof) in
Iraq is due to Congress by Sept. 15. Shortly after this the House and
Senate will take up funding for the Iraq - Afghanistan wars for FY 2008
(which starts on Oct. 1)

SEPTEMBER 15 -- MARCH ON WASHINGTON, D.C.: END THE WAR NOW,
(http://answercoalition.org)

SEPTEMBER 20 -- NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR NONVIOLENT RESISTANCE,
(http://iraqpledge.org) Nonviolent direct action (focused upon Congress)
in Washington, D.C. to end the Iraq war. NCNR is formulating the action
plan at this time.

OCTOBER 21 TO 23 -- NO WAR. NO WARMING. (http://nowarnowarming.org)
Join a global movement rising up against war and global warming by
participating in a massive intervention in Washington DC or your own
community. We need to take immediate action to: 1) stop the war in Iraq
and future resource wars by ending our addiction to fossil fuels; 2) shift
government funding to rebuild New Orleans and all communities suffering
from racism and corporate greed; and 3) go green and promote environmental
justice with new jobs in a clean energy economy.

OCTOBER 27 -- REGIONAL ANTIWAR MOBILIZATIONS organized by United for Peace
and Justice, (http://www.unitedforpeace.org) Save the date. Details will
be available at UFPJ as the regional locations and plans are firmed up.

SODaPOP -- In the next 2 or 3 weeks, Voices hopes to be able to announce a
significant new initiative to end the Iraq war. We'll let you know the
details and will welcome your participation. Remember, SODaPOP.
