After further review of the issue and the debug, I have come to the
realization that it was an issue with the location (first field) in the
php.MultiList. I need the function to search outside the base DN (/) and
thought that by setting the $servers->setValue('auto_number','search_base'
to my suffix it would search. This was incorrect. So after several ../../../
I was able to get to my users and display them correctly.

The auto_number search_base did not work as expected and I was unable to use
"/" as my starting point. Lesson learned.
