thanks to edwin and jijo for the replies. thing is, i dont have root 
access to our co-located sites. i have to package everything as rpms 
that the sysads there can install. our contract says that if what they 
have to do requires more than just typing a few commands, we have to pay 
them $100 an hour. *shrugs* =)

our developers insist on php4 though..so i'm quite in a bind. i may have 
just to trust that arvin guy and install his rpms on our production 
environment.
