Linus mentions that the name "Linux" is the name
of the directory on his minix box in which he kept
the source code for his new kernel, which he wanted
to call "Freax". But Kempe(?) who maintains
ftp.funet.fi, liked the name "linux" more than
"freax", so the directory ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/linux
was born to house the earliest klinux kernels.
So let us not blame the media/press. I think Linus
himself liked the name "linux".

I don't mind using the name linux for both the kernel
and the OS (kernel+utils). But Stallman is a purist
and forced upon us the name GNU/Linux. I am not
complaining, because I find GNU c to be the most beautiful
c/c++ compiler in the world!

Amen.
