There are very good reasons for sending the lossless compressed audio to the player. Firstly you increase your buffer by 40-60%, secondly at the same time you are decreasing your bandwidth requirments by 40-60%. Making it far less likely you will run into buffer problems compaired to pure PCM, especailly over wireless. When the SB2 was the king of the castle, this was a real problem as it doesn't support FLAC natively and only had 802.11b wireless.
Streaming the raw FLAC data without any pre-processing on the server end also has the advantage that very slow hardware (such as NAS boxes) can handle multiple players without too much problems. Having to decode to PCM would rule out a lot of peoples hardware. Fine if it is an option (which it is, you can turn off the native handling of a player), but not manditory. -- funkstar ------------------------------------------------------------------------ funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48922 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
