This is a bit off topic here, but since this is a bit unfair, I'd like
to correct the record:

The only reason pcre was bundled in the first place is that we wanted
to avoid keeping two copies of the Unicode data in memory.  Which may
not matter to you, but it is not a small amount of data, so I think
this is a valid reason.
