Hello Adelante!
My name is Sarah Humpage and I am an
alum of Mac. LAGOS, a group that I work with to support human rights
accompaniment in Guatemala, is holding our annual salsa dance this Saturday at
Patrick's Cabaret in Minneapolis. I'm not sure if you're publishing a May
calendar since school is wrapping up so soon, or if you have already sent it
out, but if not, I would love it if you could help us publicize this dance. I've
pasted some more info below.
I hope you're having a good year,
Sarah Humpage
LAGOS Annual Salsa Dance for Human
Rights at Patrick's Cabaret
LAGOS is part of a nationwide network that fundraises to support human rights accompaniment work in Guatemala. The demand for accompaniment is exceptionally high now as the genocide trials against military leaders from the early 1980s may soon stand trial, and many witnesses, lawyers, and forensic anthropologists do their work facing frequent threats. All proceeds from the dance will support human rights accompaniment in Guatemala. Follow this link to learn more about the Guatemalan Accompaniment Project: http://www.nisgua.org/G.A.P._text.htm. Survivor Stories of Genocide & Life in Guatemala - presented by Matthew Lowen Through a slide presentation, Matthew will recount the story of Ilom, one indigenous village in Guatemala that suffered tremendously during 36 years of civil war. Matthew spent a year living in the Guatemalan highlands as an international human rights observer, and recently another year working with human rights lawyers and anthropologists through Guatemala Accompaniment Project (GAP). It is through these work experiences that he shares insights into the current legal and societal strides taking place in present day Guatemala on behalf of the genocide victim survivors. |
