Yes, but the problem is that the JHS running on the server is running 
under a user that doesn't have permission to change the packages.

I will use JAL to get a better understanding of what's there - and, of 
course, the remote user can see all the information fine. I'm glad the 
information base is growing.

In thinking about this, I was puzzled where the temp files were going, 
but I see they are in ~/Documents/j64-701/temp (i.e. the Linux path) for 
the user running JHS. I think that the choice of "Documents" was the 
influence of how/where I have j installed on my iMac...

Thanks for your patient explanations. I continue to prefer using 
jconsole for (almost) all of my work. Hopefully some of this will stick 
in my memory so that I can successfully upgrade.
