I didn't see a public response, but you may have replied privately: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.alsa.devel/56875 While recording via libao's direct pulse support is indeed an Ubuntu packaging issue, the fact that current RCs of alsa-plugins does not is IMO something that should be fixed (preferably before 1.0.18 final).
