I eventually got it working. But it is on and off. Currently I have a problem with the Dapper 2.6.15-27 kernel (Dapper's latest); it doesn't create /dev/video0. However, under 2.6.15.26 it does.
But then I've suddenly had other strange goings on too, like my nvidia drivers needing to be reinstalled every time I boot - no time to investigate, so could be just my problem.
