Yup, I've decided to use a pop-up modal window with around 10-20 rows, each with the right no.of text fields corresponding to the columns and a save button. Once saved, I'll send it to the server and based on the response will add it to the table model :)
This will give the user the chance to enter multiple rows(capped at some sensible max within 10-25) and then pressing "save" can save the data to the server :)

Instead of capping it where YOU think it's sensible, you could just add a
new empty row once the last one is filled and thus let the user decide when
it's time to press the save button.

Power to the user ... ;-)
Yes, I think I might go with unlimited rows then. It's just that some users are greedy and will try entering 100s of row. Currently with my flex based app, they have a max of 4k rows entered, out of which 500 were entered in 1 shot :) So that many row means a lot of time, which in turn might lead to the login getting timed out in the server. I can of course ask them to use the bulk upload, which allows them to upload the data in a csv text area :)

cheers,
skar.
