The root node of a TreeVirtual is *always* hidden. The root node is node 0,
and it has the never-seen (because node 0 is not rendered) label "<virtual
root>".
I _think_ what you are trying to accomplish is to add children to a common
ancestor which is unseen. You can do that by adding them as children of node
0.
