Well, I think I might be the right person to answer that.

We are a big team of developers using the trunk directly and indirectly.

Is trunk stable enough? The answer is:

1. does it fail to build some time?

yes, it does, but it is normal for a trunk

2. how often does it fail?

So far only 2 times the last 8 months which we have discovered.

3. How long was the interrupted?

The first time about 2 hours. The second time about 3-4 hours.

4. Did that hinder our development?

No, it is easy to back one version

5. Are the changes in trunk tested before released to the trunk?

Obviously a lot as only two failures occurred during long time.

Conclusion: Yes, you can use trunk without any problem whatsoever. The core
team IS doing an excellent job with testing and fast updates. There will be no
interruption of development if you practice sound methods.
