In fact you must not use setSelection.
It's initilized when the widget is created.
If you want to reset the selection what you need is something like this
list.getSelection().removeAll()
If you set a new array for the selection, you need to register all the
listener the old selection array had before the selection reset.
At first it's a bit confusing, but after a while it's perfectly normal in a
OO way.
