Dear list.
Yesterday I posted an advertisement for an upcoming R phylogenetics
workshop that Luke Harmon (U. Idaho), Andrew Crawford (U. los Andes),
and I will be co-teaching at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá,
Colombia from July 8-11 this summer. More information about the course
can be found here: http://faculty.umb.edu/liam.revell/courses/Bogota.
We are seeking a TA for the course. This is a unpaid position, but all
travel expenses (return airfare, lodging, and food) will be covered or
reimbursed by my university (with support from the NSF).
The primary qualifications that we will be evaluating in prospective TAs
are the following:
(1) Expertise in R phylogenetics. Applicants don't need to be method
developers, but we hope that the course TA will be at least a 'power
user' of phylogeny methods in R and also have some basic knowledge of R
programming.
(2) Fluency in Spanish & English. The primary language of instruction in
the course will be English; however we permit students to apply in
English or Spanish, and help with exercises & discussion will take place
in both English and Spanish. Thus, we have a strong preference for a
course TA who is a fluent or native speaker of Spanish.
If you are interested in this position, please send me an email with
your CV, any description of relevant qualifications, and (for non-native
speakers) a self-assessment of your Spanish proficiency.
Sorry that we can't offer more, but hopefully the opportunity to travel
all expenses paid to Bogotá with our group will be sufficient incentive
to consider applying for this position. I have never been, but I'm told
that Bogotá is a terrific city to visit, and I think the course will be
a lot of fun.
All the best, Liam
