It turns out I do find this idea interesting, but I couldn't get through
everything this little undertaking would require without turning it into my
life's work.

There are many things to consider here.

The easier (for me) class of problems involve the mechanics of drawing colored
notes, and the mechanics of putting together some new mechanism for reading in
and encapsulating a set of rules for how to draw what. These are both areas
where I already have considerable hands-on experience and could jump in fairly
easily.

The harder problems involve deciding how to format the raw data, the minimum
amount of data necessary for making everything happen (eg. we could probably
encapsulate all of this based around C and then transform it some way or other
to derive everything else), and most particularly the business end of
determining exactly which rules apply in what situation. I know practically
nothing about modes, scales, or any of that theory 101 stuff, and I'd just be
forever trying to work out that since we know this pitch is the iii in the
Lydian mode, we're going to color it orange.

This is way too involved for me to think about getting done on my own, but if
we had the right confluence of talents from a few other people interested in
seeing this through, I could definitely help, and would almost certainly be
interested in joining in.
