It's not a limitation of MusicXML; it supports midi-program and
midi-channel elements, and we in fact write them (I just checked).
But it doesn't look to me like we have ever supported inputting program
and channel. That is, we read those attributes, put them in fields of
MusicXMLXMLHandler (m_midiProgram, m_midiChannel), and then as far as I
can tell, we never mention those fields again in the source. MusicXML
import is new in rg; until recently we only had MusicXML export.
