All: In case you are not aware of it, there is a problem (different from what I reported before) with exporting MIDI files in the 12.04 version of Rosegarden (which comes with Ubuntu 12.10).
On long, held-out chord notes, it loses the note-off events. This problem does not exist in the earlier (11.11) version of Rosegarden (which people get with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS), and it appears to have been fixed in the 12.12 (Glenfiddich) version - at least, it was fixed in my development snapshot I built to test an earlier problem. You might want to test it in the latest version. I have attached two files, an '.rg' file, which is the original file, which plays fine, and looks correct in the notation and matrix editors. The other file is a '.mid' file, which is what got exported by Rosegarden 12.04. If you import the '.mid' file, you will see chord notes that are tied/held probably clear to the end of the piece, and if you play it, it sounds very bad. Since the solo part is okay, I suspect the problem is triggered by the long, held-out simultaneous chord notes. This problem may have already been fixed, but you need to be aware that it doesn't work in the version of Rosegarden people get with Ubuntu 12.10. If (using the latest version of Rosegarden) you export a MIDI file from the attached '.rg' file), and then import the file you just exported, and it plays okay (and looks reasonable in the notation editor), then the problem has indeed been fixed. -- Sincerely, Aere
