For one thing, when I start off out of the box with whatever my current
default setup is (probably factory autoload), ALL the volumes start out
at 0 in Rosegarden's GUI.

The problem is I hear no sound, see the volume is 0, raise the volume,
and then I have to perform a ritual in order to get that transmitted to
my synth. It should just be transmitted in real time whenever I move
the knob.

Correct. I move the knob in Rosegarden, the synth is NOT receiving
anything from Rosegarden.

You can see this easily with KMidiMon, no synth required. Hook up
KMidiMon, go grab a volume knob in an IPB, and watch nothing happen. I
set that up just now, and that's exactly the result I saw.

Grabbing the knob and twiddling it should show a string of volume
changes occurring somewhere. What if I just started Rosegarden to
provide a MIDI THRU bridge so I could play my synth? What if I just
want to use Rosegarden to control program changes and volume and stuff?

I usually do exactly that while I'm dinking around with some idea,
before I start recording. If I changed those things on the synth
controls, Rosegarden would not be aware of those settings, because
Rosegarden can't read from my synth. It's write only.

It seems really apparent it has been a LONG time since I had any musical
ideas, or I probably would have been raising hell about this sooner.

Now that I'm looking with KMidiMon myself, it's hugely apparent you
don't send any of these controllers unless there's a segment on the
track with at least one note in it, and THEN they're not sent until the
user hits play.

WTF? I approved this and released it five times this broken? I should
be fired. You should be fired.

I hate Rosegarden. Did I ever mention that to anyone? WHAT a
never-ending pain in the ass.
