   Interestingly, in all my performance work, I've never seen much of a 
difference between the optimization settings in gcc, at least with rg. 
With Microsoft's compiler, there are *huge* differences in performance 
between the optimization settings.  Order of magnitude differences.  Not 
sure what such an apples to oranges comparison is worth, however.
