My original segment had annoying problems, and I thought it was just
some fluke, so I started over from scratch. When I built the new
segment from scratch, everything was great at first, but gradually over
the course of normal editing, it picked up the same problems the
original segment had.

It contains a bunch of notation quantized (interpreted) 8th notes
alternating tenuto and staccato, with 8th rests as part of the rhythm.
After some as yet undiscovered trigger event, the segment will display
thereafter with red bar lines, and no matter what I do, Rosegarden will
want to put a 16th rest in the very last bar. I can quantize this away,
but I keep having to do it again and again and again. At one point, I
even managed to shrink the tail end of the segment.

I have a feeling this is probably a really old problem. Back when I was
writing tutorials, years ago, I think I ran into similar problems.
There is some subtle gremlin at play here. My intuition is telling me
that everything is fantastic in the original editing view the original
time you bring data like this into existence, but something goes awry
the first time you open the segment in a different edit view. What
should be a passive process must be changing something, and/or the
originating edit view is telling you a lie about the actual state of things.

Shrug. I don't know. There really isn't enough to go on here to file a
real bug report, so I'm just mentioning this in passing.
