I didn't test against anything recent (the newest old build I had was from 2017), but vintage Rosegarden opened my 549-segment file in 4 seconds, while current SVN takes 48 seconds.
Running a debug build makes it clear that a lot of grinding takes place in CompositionMapper and SegmentMapper. A release build only gets the time down to 44 seconds. It's still really boggy.
Likewise, there's a slew of CompositionMapper and SegmentMapper calls when copying the entire composition and pasting a copy.
I'm not noticing any disk involvement. I have 16 GB of RAM, and the disk writes you're experiencing might be explained by swap activity.
This is confirmed, so I'm going to take the liberty of opening a bug report for Ted to keep track of it.
