You can copy /usr/local/samba/private and /usr/local/samba/etc directories to the new machine with the new samba compiled install.

You will also need to rsync /usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol to the new machine but you need to do this with ntacl support using rsync I have found works as it is provisioned with specific permissions and it's a bitch to get them back to normal..

That being said samba ships with a backup script /usr/local/src/samba-master/source4/scripting/bin/samba_backup .. you can tailor for your environment.. I stopped it from backing up the sysvol as it wasn't backing up the ntacls..
