Glenn, You might consider changing your printing architecture so that instead of using the Windows print driver for the HP Deskjet, you create the printer in Linux using the standard CUPS procedures for that printer and then share the standard Postscript driver on the samba share. In this configuration, you avoid any problems with the HP Deskjet driver for windows. My experience is that the HPIJS driver bundled with most versions of Linux is quite good.
