BG 3.42: "The working senses are superior to dull matter; mind is higher than the senses; intelligence is still higher than the mind; and he [the soul] is even higher than the intelligence." This quote is from Bhagavad Gita chapter 3 verse 42. In many languages the word for breath and the soul are interchangeable. In this verse sah is simply a pronoun meaning "he" which is obviously referring to some antecedent (?dehinam "body/embodied" from 3.40?). If you post the saying in Sanskrit, someone here may be able to help you find its precise origin. Hope this helps. I presume that this means, "he anna ! tvam satyam. tvAm Rtena pariShi~ncAmi" as a sort of kavacha. There are explanations which link satyam and Rtam to the qualities of agni in the morning and evening. And, given that we are offering prAnAhuti-s to the bhUtAgni, there is probably some link. "amRtam astu" is straightforward. "amRtopastaraNam asi" shows up in the extended recension of the mahanArAyaNam, and here is the extended sAyana-bhAShya -- he piiyamAna jala, tvam amRtam vinAsharahitam prANa-devatAyAH [upastaraNam asi. yathA shayAnasya puruShasya ma~ncakasyopari tUla-paTAdikam upastiiryate, tadvat prANa-devatAyAH] idam upastaraNam. This is followed by the ahutis and "amRitApidhAnamasi" which completes this with "piiyamAna he jala, tvam amRtam avinashvaram apidhAnam AcChAdakam asi". bhavadiiyaH, ajit On Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 5:54 PM, Sai Susarla <sai.susa...@gmail.com> wrote: > How does tu + R^itena become tvartena? > > Also, I couldn't get the meaning/significance even after the padaccheda. > Could you explain? > - Sai. > > Ajit Krishnan wrote: >> >> namaste, >> >> satyam tu Rtena parisi~nchAmi. amRtam astu. amRta ! upastaraNam asi. >> >> The dhAtu sich (Shich kSharaNe) is in the tudAdi-gaNa, and the form is >> 'si~nchati' etc. >> >> bhavadiiyaH, >> >> ? ?ajit >> >> >> >> On Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 12:12 PM, Vasu Srinivasan<vasy...@gmail.com> >> ?wrote: >> >>> >>> I would appreciate if anyone could help me with padaccheda of the >>> following >>> mantra: >>> >>> satyantavartena parisinchaami | amrutamastu | amrutopastharanamasi svaha >>> | >>> >>> Also is it parisinchaami or parisinchayaami ? >>> >>> I understand it is from 'sich' (sprinkle) root, but what gana is it ? >>> >>> -- >>> Regards, >>> Vasu Srinivasan >>> ------------------------------ Message: 15 Date: Fri, 12 Feb 2010 18:12:26 +0530 From: anupam srivatsav <anupam.srivat...@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Sanskrit] Meaning of satyantavartena ...
