Dear list members,

As mentioned last week, we will be moving to a google-based group
shortly. A few questions were raised during the past week. We will
address those questions in a separate mail later this week.

In order to smooth the moving process, please do *not* start any new
threads this week. This will ensure that no discussion/thread is lost
during the transition.

Existing threads may continue.

Instructions on how to move to the new list will be sent within the
next two days. After that, we expect it will take at least 2-3 days
for the new list to stabilize and become active.

Any questions in the interim may be addressed to the admins at:
sanskrit-ow...@cs.utah.edu

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Admins.

Dear List members,

The Sanskrit mailing list is moving to its new home to a google group. The
new email address of the group will be:

samskr...@googlegroups.com

1. You will need to resubscribe to the new list. Your existing membership
will *not* be automatically transferred to the new list.

2. To subscribe to the new mailing list, please go to:
http://groups.google.com/group/samskrita
and click on join.

3. After subscribing you can send mails to the mailing list using the above
email address.

Again, you do not need a google account to subscribe to the new list. You
can use whichever email address you prefer.

Devanagari on the new list:
You should be able to see Devanagari characters whether you use digest mode
or individual mail mode with the new mailing list if your email client can
process Unicode.

You will also be able to write mails containing Devanagari characters using
your preferred option - Baraha, Itrans, Google IME, etc.

If you have questions, please send an email to:
samskrita.ow...@gmail.com

A correction to the previous note.

2. To subscribe to the new mailing list, please go to:

The above option will work for those who have a google account.

If you are subscribing from a non-google email, please log in to your email
address (the one you wish to subscribe from) and send an email to the
following address:

samskrita+subscr...@googlegroups.com<samskrita%2bsubscr...@googlegroups.com>

And you will be subscribed to the list in email mode (i.e., you will be able
to send and receive emails).

Sorry about missing this part earlier.

To a tradition not averse to seeing everything as a manifestation of the
Supeme, even sound is.
So I dont see any problem with the uncomplicated meaning of Sabdabrahma as
'God manifested as sound'
...... OM, divine sound. voice .... any and every sound that we associate
with joy and peace.

A reference from literature that I am familiar with:

Naaraayaneeyam - canto 100 verse 5
describing the music from flute of Krishna

"Sabdabrahmaamrutai: sisiritabhuavanai: tvam sincha me karnaviithiim"
...May you flood/irrigate my ears(auditory senses/tracks/canals?)
with "sabdabrahma", which flowing like amrut cools the worlds...
