SAPAC General Meeting - Monday March 22, 2004

Present: Nilofer, Mary Ann, Shashi, Anoop, Sanji, Rasheed, Sapna, Raj, Roshani, Aparna

1. Voices of Resistance 3: Our annual art show
- Raised over $500 to be used to support future SAPAC events.
 - Aparna has a list of all people and list-serves the 'call for artists' was sent to 
and this will be used next year.
- Roshani will send thank-you e-mails to the artists
- VOR4: Look for it this time next year

2. Third I: Screening independent South Asian films
- May screening of "Final Solutions" at Indo-American Center. We need money for 
travel, lodging, IAC space, and associated screening costs. 
- The "Third I committee" will pull together a one-pager on the film, including film 
bio, director bio, finances needed, and call for co-sponsors.. This one-pager will 
help us garner funds.
- IMC and Building Bridges may be willing to help out.
- Third I has established a relationship with Chicago Filmmakers, who will screen 
Third I films. Look for that announcement.

3. South Asian writers
 - Mary Ann is going to look into bringing SA writers to Chicago for SAPAC events. 
This  includes "Poets and Writers"

4. Website & listserves - Nilofer is in the midst of migrating the SAPAC listserv to 
yahoo groups. This should be complete in the next few weeks.

5. Breakthrough's Forum for a New America: This is an event being organized in NYC in 
April by Breakthrough Inc and NYU School of Law designed to increase youth 
participation in the political process.
- Possibility of SAPAC bringing this event to Chicago in September
 - Aparna will set up a conference call with Mallika Dutt and other committee members 
(Rasheed, Nilofer, Anoop).
- Questions to ask include the partisan nature of the event; flexibility of the 
agenda; the finances; and anticipated role of SAPAC.

6. Bhopal event: A Discussion on the Union Carbide Disaster in Bhopal
- Roshani met with Kamyani from the Association of India Development, who wants to 
organize an event to share information about the International Campaign in Bhopal. 
- Ryan Bodyani will speak.
- Event set for April 23rd 
- Roshani and Aparna to work on the press for event.
- Look for the announcements 

7. Hinduism Conference: Diversity & Modernity [@ Northwestern University on April 
9-11] 
- SAPAC will be sending representation to this event (Raj, Shashi, Anoop). 
Anyone else interested in attending should contact Shashi at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

8. Building Bridges: This is a broad-based coalition that includes SAPAC. 
- Dr. Ram Puniyani of India's EKTA Organization will be speaking on Sunday, April 4 at 
2pm at Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien. For more information and directions,

- Snacks will be served.  Registration is free. Please RSVP to  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

- Coalition for a Secular and Democratic India (CSDI), another member of the "Building 
Bridges" is seeking 501c3 status. SAPAC will have representation on their board 
(Shashi Menon).
- Sapna Gupta and Shashi presented to Congressman Danny Davis on current events in 
India.

9. People's Movements in India - Nilofer will be convening a meeting for all those 
interested in participating. Watch for that announcement. 

10. Bhangra for Unity - Planning for this event in August 2004. Sub-committee is 
Nilofer, Sanji, and Shashi.
