Therefore, an effective weed management is essential for the sustenance of crop production. Previous studies suggest that arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, widespread soil fungi that form symbiotic associations with major crops, can suppress growth of several aggressive weeds. The aim of this internship is to test the impact of AM fungi on a wide range of problematic agricultural weeds In addition to this, the precise mechanism by which AM fungi suppress weed growth will be investigated. This study may provide us renewed tools for managing weeds in sustainable farming systems, as well as a better understanding of AM fungal-plant interactions. This research will be performed at the Swiss Federal Research Institute Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon, Research Station ART, in Zürich. You will work in a team with one PhD student, one Master student and a technician.
