SCIENCE-JOBS-DE Stellenausschreibung (vacancies)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hannover Medical School (MHH), founded in 1965, is one of the world's leading
university medical centres. Our outstanding success in interdisciplinary
collaboration both within the MHH and with extramural scientific institutions
is reflected in the fact that the MHH is the German medical university with the
largest volume of grant funding. The Institute of Virology hosts 7 research
teams funded by the DFG, the EU, Volkswagenstiftung, Wilhelm-Sander-Stiftung
and the BMBF and working on important human pathogenic viruses such as the
KSHV, HCMV, HSV, HCV, HIV, and adenoviruses.
In the Sodeik team, we study the herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection of
epithelial cells and neurons using digital life-cell imaging and dual-colour
fluorescent viral strains, electron microscopy, and biochemical assays
reconstituting key aspects of the viral life cycle. Our success in our
scientific endeavoursÂ’ is built on curiosity, innovation, and diverse
approaches to do science. We offer a nice, dynamic team driven by collaborative
efforts.

Within a national program project grant (German Research Council DFG-SPP 1175)
on Dynamics of Cellular Membranes and their exploitation by viruses we are
looking for a highly motivated assistant running the molecular biology branch
of our group. You will be actively involved in our research project studying
the function of HSV proteins in virus assembly. Your main responsibilities will
be the generation and characterization of new HSV mutants using our bacterial
artificial chromosome. You should be familiar with molecular biology
techniques, such as cloning, mutagenesis or quantitative RT-PCR, have a quick
grasp on learning new techniques, able to work on your own and known for your
accurate but yet efficient working style.

The position is available for three years starting in July 2009. Please feel
free to call us for further informal inquiries. Applications including a CV and
three letters of recommendation should be sent to Beate Sodeik by June 10th,
2009.
